I recently finished a book by Jules Watson entitled The Swan Maiden. It was one of the most difficult books to get through that I've touched in a while.
Here's my Goodreads review:
I really enjoyed Watson's Dalriada trilogy so I assumed The Swan Maiden would be equally enjoyable. But for some reason, I just could not get into this book or the characters. I like and admire the attempt to turn mythology into logical, historical fiction, but this did not click with Deirdre and Naisa - at least for me.
It's always disappointing when you think you've found an author whose style you love...and then in their next book, they let you down. That's how I felt with this one.
