For last month's read, my book group chose Maria Rosa Menocal's The Ornament of the World, a history of Spain's medieval religious triumphs and travails.
My Goodreads review:
My book group chose to read this and I was excited by the choice. The history of Spain, the Christianity within it, has always intrigued me.
Menocal kept my attention through the first half - the straight history of it all was great. But as she started taking small snapshots of people within that history, it was hard to keep everyone straight. I know my medieval history but tossing around the names of Spanish monarchs gets confusing.
I'm glad I read this book and hope to one day visit Spain.
